Application: Emergency Power Generators for Hospital Life/Safety Equipment
Challenge: The hospital required a redundant generator system. The challenge was there was not enough real estate or budget to accommodate two 1.5 MW generators. Typically, paralleling generators is costly and requires expensive paralleling gear. In addition, there just was not enough space to accommodate two large enclosures.
Solution: Evolve provided our innovative redundant and scalable generator solution, the Evolution Series. We configured an enclosure with five 500kW engines to provide N+2 redundancy without the need for paralleling gear. We are able to fit this into the same footprint as a single enclosure of a larger engine. As a result, the hospital was able to get the redundancy they needed at a cost that was a fraction of what two larger engines would of cost. Best of all, it fit within their existing footprint.
Application: Emergency Power Generators for Modular Data Halls
Challenge: Client was installing a 2N configuration of 1.5MW gen sets for multiple modular data halls. However, due to lower than anticipated loads in some of the data halls, the client incurred wet stacking and other related maintenance issues with their generators. In addition, client felt their 2N solution was exposed during maintenance windows and product failures. Finally, the client was experiencing issues with getting spare parts for their 1.5MW engines that were supposed to be readily available.
Solution: Evolve offered a custom design of our patented redundant and scalable generator solution, The Evolution Series. We provided a custom 2N configuration of two 3x500kW John Deere Engines to where the load determines how many of the engines run at any given time. This eliminated the chances of wet stacking as each engine in operation is operating at the recommended percentage of load. In addition, because each engine can be maintained individually without the entire package having to be taken off line, this ensures the client is never exposed during maintenance windows or if an engine fails. Finally, with John Deere engines, the client never has to worry about spare parts as they can order them from any of the hundreds of John Deere dealers across the nation.
Application: Emergency Power Generators to support University Data Center.
Challenge: The University was re-purposing an old food commissary into a Tier 3 data center to support the growing needs of the school. One of the challenges was that the University needed an N+1 solution for both of their main data halls yet the budget and real estate could only accommodate an N solution. As such, the University would have been significantly exposed during routine maintenance along with the fact that a product failure could have been devastating.
Solution: Evolve created a custom version of its Evolution Series package to configure five 500kW engines in each enclosure. This provided the University with N+1 redundancy for both of their data halls. Evolve was able to do this for a similar budget that the University would have had to spend on an N solution. Now, the University no longer has to worry about scheduled maintenance or potential engine failures as any one engine can be maintained while the others are still supporting the load.
